Confident vulnerability

“Confident Vulnerability leaves individuals open, curious, willing to receive others’ perspectives and synergize through their differences. It is a necessary prerequisite to interdependence.”  Deanna Murphy (Strength Strategy)

The combination of these two terms is really compelling to me.  It communicates something powerful and stimulates reflection:

Confidence – to be confident in who I am, knowing my strengths and weaknesses and being comfortable in my own identity.

Vulnerability – to be transparent, to share my story openly, to be willing be seen and fully known.  Vulnerability is not weakness, it is a measure of courage.

Confident Vulnerability … what comes to mind for you?

  1. There are only wounded healers, no one can claim they’ve never been deeply hurt or discouraged. I don’t think we need to expose our inner selves to everyone, but there’s a way of balancing confidence with vulnerability that is a sign of maturity. A person with such qualities inspires openness in others and helps them trust they can get there, too.
