Enterprise agility simulation with Okaloa Founder Patrick Steyart

July 15 @ 8:00 am - July 16 @ 5:00 pm

Are you …

  • trying to solve the issue of ‘agility in the business’ and feel that something still is missing?
  • responsible for the portfolio level in your organization?
  • at the start of an agile journey to increase your flexibility when delivering to your market?
  • stuck with an agile transformation process that works out nicely on the team level, but honestly, you are puzzled about how to better balance demand with supply when moving to portfolio level?
  • responsible to manage the upstream demand, which is often conflicting and incommensurable?
  • trying to find out how to better shape demand and supply to foster flexibility towards the market?

This workshop will teach you the foundations of enterprise flow. It will help you to understand, recognise and deal with the challenges faced in the upstream and on the portfolio level.  You will be prepared to develop your own agile portfolio management process or work with your customers to help them to develop an agile portfolio management that suits their needs.

We will use specially designed Okaloa Flowlab simulations to facilitate a fun but very real experience of business agility.  Participants will explore radically new ways of dealing with both upstream and the agile portfolio.  The workshop reinforces, rather than replaces, any scaling or other agile frameworks or methods that participants are already familiar with. Expert facilitators provide you access to additional knowledge and tools as needed.

What you learn in this workshop will make you more effective at scaling agile in your, or your customer’s, organization. It will also make you more effective as a coach and a trainer.  You will be exposed to a unique teaching style where experience precedes theory.

Rather than imposing a method or practices on the participants, it allows the participants to experience – in a safe to fail environment – and develop their own thinking models that fit with their practices and frameworks.

You will practice different options of utilizing agile portfolio management techniques and will be able to define the steps necessary to apply them in your setting. You’ll experience by means of simulation what the difference is between managing options upstream and managing work downstream. You will learn how to balance conflicting business requirements involving many teams and create an understanding of what shapes your demand and supply.

Workshop facilitators

Patrick Steyaert is the founder of Okaloa. As a creator of Okaloa Flowlab, he teaches and coaches agile thinking (before methods) by making use of business simulations. With his work on upstream, customer and discovery kanban he helps organizations to look at the end-to-end flow (from suspected to satisfied need). He is the author of the Essential Upstream Kanban guide, a regular speaker at international conferences, and recipient of the 2015 Brickell Key award for outstanding contribution to the Kanban community.  Here is a recent keynote by Patrick on enterprise flow and a few other interviews and reflections by past participants.

Interviews: Okaloa Flowlab Portfolio training in the Netherlands:

Behind the scenes in Brussels:

Together with Arlette Vercammen, co-facilitator and product manager of Okaloa Flowlab, he will be facilitating this 2-day training. As creators of Okaloa Flowlab, they will provide you with new insights on how work works, how the upstream stream process works and how it differs from the downstream process, and how to deal with conflicting, incommensurable demand that needs to be delivered by different teams. Through their novel teaching approach, you will be given a rich, new experience about agile portfolio management.

Patrick and Arlette will be supported by locally trained Okaloa Flowlab facilitators.
